two friends fishingThe Joni and Friends/Dallas-Ft. Worth team held a fantastic Family Retreat down in Camp Allen, Texas this week (they serve the best barbecue this side of El Paso, and have more fun than a rafter-ringing hoe-down). It was one busy, happy week -- at the "Fishing with Friends" activity at Camp Allen, the leaders issued a challenge to the campers with the coveted prize of a new rod and reel! Volunteer Brad accepted and won the challenge with his fish... then he gave the rod and reel to his camper, Kirk. Hats off to Doug and Leanne Goddard who led "Fishing with Friends," and a big round of applause for big-hearted Brad! More Family Retreats are lined up for this month -- see how you can help!

I am Deanna Mudd and I help assist in that beautiful smile Kirk has. I think Brad is an exceptional friend to Kirk to have eaten the worm and get Kirk a new fishing rod. Sounds like to me Kirk has some really special friends at this camp. I have come to know Kirk through orthodontics and I really enjoy each visit we get to have together and hear all about the fun times he has had in between appointments. Way to go Camp Allen for making his time there so enjoyable.

I'm Kirk's mom, and I can say, Brad was an AMAZING, perfect STM for Kirk. The challenge? Eat a worm! And he did. Now that's going above and beyond the call of duty! This was our 4th straight year at Camp Allen Family Retreat, and we wouldn't miss it! Kirk has a blast every year, and my husband and I get some much-coveted rest and relaxation. Plus, we get to see old friends and meet new ones. It's a fellowship hard to describe except to say it truly, truly is a foretaste of Heaven. Thanks, Joni (and all the folks @ Dallas-Ft. Worth AND Camp Allen!) for a super ministry! We love you all!
