Her 15 year old son, Javier, has cerebral palsy. “We live in a world that doesn’t understand our needs,” says Kim. But at Joni and Friends’ Family Retreat, they find the strength and understanding that they need. Kim and Javier have been coming to Family Retreat for 10 years and their faith has grown stronger every year. “Family Retreat is an important part of our Christian growth,” Kim explains. “Every year we take a giant step forward in our walk with Christ. The worship, the fellowship and the messages from God’s word stay in our hearts all year. Throughout the year, I know God will remind me every day to take the blinders off and let Him be my strength and helper!” Best of all, Kim and Javier feel deeply loved and valued by their Family Retreat ‘family.’ “At home, people have no idea what a day in our lives is like. At Family Retreat, we’re accepted and understood completely. Javier feels connected and level with these kids. He belongs.” Thank you for your strong prayers and support that make Family Retreats available to families that live with disability. You bring Kim and Javier home to Family Retreat! As our 2012 Family Retreat season begins next week, check back to meet short term missionary Nick and his camper Joseph via video as they tell you about their week together at Family Retreat!
