joni and kevin in the radio studioWhen I'm tooling around the IDC, I love passing other wheelchair users 'on the ramp.' That's one small reason why I'm happy Kevin Natale is with us this month, interning through our Cause 4 Life internship program. I love this guy's attitude (he was shot in the neck by a neighbor at the age of 14, but Jesus Christ gave him the amazing ability to forgive his assailant). At first, though, he was pretty depressed and sought escape from the reality of his quadriplegia by abusing alcohol. Then Jesus gripped his heart and he went on to graduate from college. And now? Among other things, Kevin is helping us research statistics on people with disabilities and drug abuse (yes, it's a bigger problem than you'd think). Take a moment and cheer Kevin on by dropping him a line on my blog… and please pray for this dear brother. Then, take a look at this wonderful video that shows what Cause 4 Life internships are all about!

Kevin, I heard about you on the radio. My friends 20 yr old dtr has gotten close to a young man who is in a wc from an accident. He takes pain meds and now she is taking drugs with him. I am trying to help this girls parents, but don't know what to do. Any advice would be cherished. Connie

Hi Kevin, Thank you so much for the work you are doing! This area is so important ecpescially in today's world. I think your work speaks to those who are not just disabled but disabled by finding means to ease their pain that only leads them further away from Jesus and holds them bondage. You will help remove those chains by offering hope and a Savior! Thank you again and God bless, Rachel

God Bless you Kevin. You are the arms and the feet of Jesus helping reach those that we can't reach. May He reward you with His abundant love, peace and joy. Stay strong in Him, brother!

Hi Kevin! I was just down at the IDC, so sorry I didn't meet you there! I have a dear friend up here in Redding who was involved in a very similar incident, he was 18 and sitting in his car when someone tried to rob him, he fought back and was shot in the neck. God really used this to get his attention. Howard was already heading down the path of drinking and partying. We are all so different and God in His great wisdom uses ALL things to work together for our good! So glad you have experienced restoration and forgiveness in your own life. What an example to so many who are tempted to remain bitter and angry over far lesser things. Thanks so much for blessing the people there at JAF!

Hi, Kevin! I was moved to read that you were able to forgive your assailant - the Lord is obviously working in your heart and you have allowed Him to do so! It is so good to hear that you are using your knowledge and skills to bring more attention to the issue of disabilities and drug use. We have a ministry to the homeless and find drug/alcohol abuse to be the most obvious obstacle to trying to reach goals that would help them out of their situations. While it is certainly understandable why any of us would want to numb ourselves in the face of our challenges, it is vital that we see clearly what our challenges are and how they can be won. I will be praying for your ministry to others and that you will feel His Presence every moment! Together with you in His strong grip, Anna

Hello Kevin, It fills my heart with joy and hope as I hear the story of God's work in your life! It is never hopeless when we look to Jesus. I thank him for your heart of forgiveness and the contentment you can have in Jesus Christ. This life is so fleeting, no matter the pain that God allows we can live to bring glory to God. I will be praying for you and will count it a privilege to meet you in Heaven one day where there will be no more pain or suffering. God bless you Kevin as you seek to serve Him with your life.

Thank you for sharing Kevin's story. What a turn a tragedy into a means to encourage others. It encouraged me today to keep going despite my own trials. With Hope, Cheryl

Hey Kevin! Howdy Doody :) Just this short blurb on you was so great to read. What you're doing is awesome! There are so many needs out there that people don't see until they face that issue. I hope you have a great time with Joni (in case no one has told you already, she's a really precious and special person) and her staff. God bless you in this internship and your life all around. Love your sister in Christ, Meggie Joy Burdzy 1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. -Joshua 1:9 and to that I say AMEN!
