Friday, July 2nd Update:

Today was my first real day of feeling like myself – four days after pretty serious surgery :-). And just to prove it, I posted a quick video of me and my sister. Ken and I are so grateful for Kathy’s help this week and I think she may even extend her stay! Today I worked with a physical therapist who helped us improve our technique on transferring me from my bed to my wheelchair. Tomorrow, an occupational therapist will show us the new range-of-motion routines I need to work on for my arm – my right arm is the one with which I feed myself using a bent spoon in my arm splint, so a strong right arm is essential. Thank you SO MUCH for praying – the Lord Jesus is being so sweet to me, so precious and near. In the night when it’s a little difficult to sleep, Psalm 10:17 is a real blessing, “You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.” Tomorrow Ken and I will celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary – we’ll do it over Maryland crab cakes and anniversary cake as we enjoy reading the many cards, emails and posts on Joni’s Corner. Happy 4th of July – I’ll be back in touch after the holiday. Again, thank you for praying!

Hi Joni, I had breast cancer in 1995, double mastectomy, and thought that was over. Unfortunately, this past year I was diagnosed with mestastatic breast cancer, so I guess God had other plans for me. I'll be praying for you--I certainly know what you're going through--and I would appreciate your prayers. And yes, I'm Bill Gothard's sister.

Joni, You are such an inspiration to me and have been for a long, long time. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006 and I am cancer free!!! The Lord worked a miracle in my life and healed me. I praise him every day and I thank God for you and will pray for you each day.

Dear friend Joni, You don't know what a dear friend you have been to me over the years. I have just today heard about your cancer. You have been on my heart and now I know why. Almost 20 yrs ago at the age of 39 I was pregnant and found out something was wrong with my baby. My doctor wasn't sure exactly what was wrong but she was slow growing and didnt move very much. I had a 5 yr old at the time and I knew how different this pregnancy felt. I had been trying to get pregnant for several years and was so excited to finally be expecting again. However, the ultrasound showed some abnormalities.. I was offered an amnioscienticisis(sp?)but declined because I knew God knew whatever the problem was and that was good enough for me. I knew there were risk involved with that procedure and I also knew that procedure was done to help a person to decide to end a pregnancy. Everyday when I was in my car I would hear you on my radio. As I went thru that pregnancy my strength grew because of your words. God used them to comfort me and give me peace. I had been listening to your radio program for several years but during that time of my life you became my friend everyday. I knew that whatever the Lord had planned I need not fear. I had seen the beautiful work He had done in your life and I knew He would make something beautiful come from whatever he had in store for me with my baby Anna. Well, Baby Anna was born on Dec 31, 1991, stillborn. She was 3 lbs,6 oz. beautiful and perfect in my eyes. I was able to hold her for a time and even have pictures from that night.(An ultrasound done at my 36 wk check up showed she had died.) But, I was not devastated. I cried and cried but thru it all I saw amazing works of the Lord and it was a time I would never trade for anything. The Lord was so close to me and it was a precious time for me and my husband. But, the most amazing thing was how I was unbelievably blessed, beyond belief!!! I want you to know I am praying for you now as you go thru this challange. You are such inspiration to so many and I feel so blessed to "know" you. I will always remember how I was so inspired in those days of waiting and wondering what would be. But always knowing He was in control and I didnt need to worry. Thank you for being so available to Him and giving so much to us!!!! And, PS. 16 mos later at the age of 41 I gave birth to a whopping 8lb9oz little girl. She will be a senior in high school this fall. Praise be to Him, my Lord and Saviour!!!! Love you my friend, Bobbie

Dear Joni, First, my heart really goes out to you that you have to go through this cancer on top of ... well you know. I know, as you have taught so many for so long, that we have to avoid self-pity as it is a brutal enemy. And the last thing I want to do is invoke it, but this must be really, really hard. Please know that beyond all of the positive notes and encouragements, all of us really ache for you, and we can only imagine what you go through. I guess I just felt led to say out loud what you already know, that you are a very special vessel of His. I am not a prophet but I feel led to write that your reward will be astronomical. I pray and believe that His comfort and a powerful sense of His Presence will increase to match your multiplied sufferings. I was a pastor for 12 years when I contracted Stage IV metastatic melanoma and they said I had DAYS to live... in 2003. God does heal, so we are indeed praying and believing for your healing. Much tender love and many bold prayers coming your way in the Spirit, Joe Fornear Stronghold Ministry - a ministry to cancer patients

Joni, what a blessing you are! I thank God for you and your ministry and pray that you are feeling well. My youngest son, who was handicapped, has been with the Lord for 7 years now (he was 15yrs when he passed) and I am SO thankful for God's grace and tenderness during that hard period. I still miss him, but I know exactly where he is!! :)

Hi Joni, It was good to talk, pray and sing before your surgery and I keep up through Jamie. I continue to uphold you in prayer and love. God is gracious and meets our needs moment by moment...always on time. I am glad Kathy is with you...a perfect heart of compassion at this time. Love to you, Ken, and all the old gang.
