Beyond Suffering Curriculum in Braille and Spanish EditionsBeyond Suffering: A Christian View on Disability Ministry by Joni Eareckson Tada and Steve Bundy, a groundbreaking course of study created to transform the way Christians view God’s plan for disability and suffering, is now available in Spanish and Braille Editions.

“Joni and Friends International Disability Center strives to anticipate the needs of the disability community and provide user-friendly resources for those looking to equip churches for disability ministry,” explained Bundy, Tada’s co-author on the project and Vice President of the Christian Institute on Disability at Joni and Friends. “To reach our Spanish-speaking audience, the complete Study Guide and the Leader’s Guide have been fully translated, with Spanish subtitles now included for each of the video case studies from the award-winning Joni and Friends Television Series.” The Braille Edition includes the Study Guide with the Course Reader, as well as the Leader’s Manual translated into a .brf format for use with Braille reading software and printers.

The Beyond Suffering curriculum contains 16 lessons organized into four modules: An Overview of Disability Ministry; The Theology of Suffering and Disability; The Church and Disability Ministry; and An Introduction to Bioethics. Each module is designed to give Christians a solid understanding of the main issues involved in various aspects of disability ministry. In addition, the course encourages participants to reflect on their own personal journeys through suffering as they come to understand how human brokenness reveals humanity’s need for redeeming grace, and the way the disability community challenges our understanding of the human condition.

“Students who embrace this study will gain a sense of confidence in knowing that they are part of a movement that God is orchestrating to fulfill his command in Luke 14:21; ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame,’” Bundy said. Both new editions, as well as the original curriculum, are available for purchase online along with an introductory video on the need for these materials featuring Tada, Bundy and other contributors.

Dear Joni, What a great blessing you are for the Spanish speaking people and those who are blind! I pray for you and Ken and the work of JAF.
